HOW MYCT CAME ABOUT

Back in 1985, an experienced Scout Leader, Bill Whiteside became very concerned at the failure of society to cater for so many young people left free to roam our streets. Using Scouting as a model he designed an outdoor activity centre which would attract and motivate them to develop their undoubted potential and become useful citizens. The result was ‘Merseyside Youth Challenge Trust’. With the strong backing of the City Council and the support of many friends, Scouting and non-Scouting, the Centre now caters for thousands of young people annually. Good clean, simple ‘Fun and Challenge in Safety’ appeals to all. Older teenagers become the leaders of activities, gaining skills and qualifications leading to future, worthwhile careers. Qualified and dedicated volunteer staff run activities to top national standards. Feedback comments from client groups regularly use terms such as ‘excellent’ ‘fantastic’, ‘professional’ and ‘brilliant’. We believe the whole enterprise to be abundantly worthwhile and consider it a privilege to influence young lives in this way.
