| MYCT has been operational for 25 year. This has only been possible because of the support from Foundations, Trusts and running projects from organisations. The City Council provides the premises but MYCT has always had to fund the running costs of the Centre and its staff. This is a difficult time for everyone and MYCT is struggling to maintain income to keep the Centre running.
Fundraising is a full time job and we have limited resources. We believe MYCT to be unique; we have achieved some great things over previous years with very little. Most achievements you will not be able to measure, you can’t measure a youngsters confidence when he has to stand up in front of a group of people for the first time to make a speech, you can’t measure their smile at having achieved something they never thought they could do like abseiling and you can’t measure the respect gained from others around them, but we know MYCT works, we have seen youngsters return after many years to thank us. We are sure that a large number of these youngsters’ lives would not have turned out to be so positive if they had not attended MYCT. We have come to realise that the original ethos / aims of the centre still hold as true today as they did then, that’s why things have not changed much at MYCT over the years, it works because we believe that people’s personal development can be enhanced through adventurous outdoor activities (team work, trust, challenge, self worth/esteem) which are run by trained professional competent staff. It is important that MYCT continues to develop and continues to offer outdoor adventure to its users who attend mostly from the local community to give them an opportunity to achieve individual and team goals. |
